WWV time signal 5 MHz, Fort Collins, Colorado, copied in Rio Capim

Hi there, this is sort of a PF for me as I've only every previously copied WWV on 5 and 15 MHz - from the UK on both occasions. Nice to hear them again after about a year, here in Rio Capim on a new frequency.

Recorded on 14/10/17 at
02:32 hrs UTC using an Eton Satellit and a 20 metre long wire. Thanks for watching.

Radio Cançao Nova 9675 kHz Sao Paulo, copied in Rio Capim

Hi there, I managed to rope in one of my Portuguese speaking friends here in Rio Capim to confirm the ID of this station - which has been reported recently by one or two of our radio friends, here in YouTube. Very happy to catch another PF from here.

Radio Pilipinas 17820 kHz, Tinang, recorded in Rio Capim, Northern Brazil

HI there, nice to catch Radio Pilipinas after quite some time, here in Rio Capim. This was a reasonably strong signal to my current location in Rio Capim, Northern Brazil. Recorded on 14/10/17 at 02:39 hrs UTC using an Eton Satellit and a 20 metre long wire. Thanks for watching.

More Shortwave radios for sale in Paragominas!

Hi there, I recorded this video a week ago, when I last visited Paragominas. I was very pleased to finally find a shortwave radio with digital tuning - in fact I found two lol. Thanks for watching.

Radio Brazil Central 4985 kHz copied in Rio Capim with Eton Satellit and...

Hi there, the adjacent channel QRM I copied here in Rio Capim is also present when tuning this station from the UK, but there the signal is so much weaker, there's almost never any recovered audio.

Very noisy monkeys nearby making their presence known!

Hi there, usually it's Howler Monkeys that are heard in this part of Rio Capim and for all I know, these are Howler Monkeys, except they're not howling - more a screech or bark type of sound. Very interesting to hear from someone like me from the UK! Thanks for watching.

Radio Santa Cruz, 6134.8 kHz Boliva, copied in Rio Capim

Hi there, a much stronger signal than I'm used to of course, which was nice, although a little noisy from adjacent QRM. Still a very enjoyable catch and once again, a station of great music!

Recorded on 14/10/17 at
01:57 hrs UTC using an Eton Satellit and a 20 metre long wire. Thanks for watching.

Radio Mosoj Chaski 3310 kHz Bolivia, copied in Rio Capim

Hi there, this station is one for the first I look out for on SW when I start a listening session. Great to hear them with a decent signal here in Rio Capim. As usual, the music is great!

MW DX: Harbour Light of the Windwards 1400 kHz, Carriacou, Grenada

Hi there, it's quite difficult to hear RNZI in the UK these days, so it was nice to catch them again with a strong signal, here in Rio Capim. I'm looking forward to catching them again at home sometime soon.

Shortwave radios for sale in Paragominas!

Hi there, I forgot to video the shortwave radios on offer in the shops in Paragominas last weekend, so this time when we had to return to buy more supplies I remembered lol. Another one of these videos to come. Thanks for watching.

Rádio Educação Rural 4925.2 kHz, Tefé, copied in Rio Capim

Hi there, not surprisingly this is easily my best copy of Rádio Educação Rural. Back in the UK I do hear them from time-to-time, even at home, but usually a DXpedition is required for usable recovered audio. Great to hear them with unprecidented clarity in Rio Capim.

Radio Tarma 4775 kHz Peru, copied in Rio Capim with 20 metre wire.

Hi there, this was my first half-decent copy of Radio Tarma since I arrived in Rio Capim. Recorded at 22:15 local time - middle of the evening effectively. Nice to hear them over here, earlier in the evening for a change.

Just managed to catch a Coati crossing the road in Rio Capim...

They're a bit weird looking, but quite cute at the same time. If they spot you they don't hang about, but I managed to get a few seconds video of this one crossing the road in front of my truck!

Swedish Navigational Warning (# 196) 1710 kHz, copied in Oxford UK

Hi there, I've never copied this transmission previously - it was a surprise to hear this just above the X-band.

Radio Brazil Central 11815 kHz, Goiania, copied in Rio Capim

Hi there, the last time I copied this station well enough to record and upload a reception video was April of this year. Usually heard quite well on a DXpedition in the UK, much more difficult at home in the shack.

Another Tarantula crossing the road in Rio Capim

Hi there, we videoed another of my furry friends, here in Rio Capim. They're scary and sort of cute all at the same time lol. This one moves fast!

Rádio Gaúcha 11915 kHz, Porto Alegre, copied in Rio Capim

Hi there, this is a personal first for me, so I'm very happy to have copied this station. Given the signal strength here in Rio Capim, it's no wonder I've not copied them in the UK Having said that, I'm sure I heard a while ago that they were off air? Perhaps someone with more local knowledge can confirm.

Radio Voz Missionaria 9665 kHz, Camboriu, copied in Rio Capim

Hi there, a nice signal from Camboriu, here in Rio Capim. This station is a struggle at home, although can be quite readable on a DXpedition. Good job once again from the Eton and MA305 antenna.

Rádio Evangelizar 11935 kHz Curitiba, copied in Rio Capim

Hi there, an ever better signal from Rádio Evangelizar, this time on the 25 metre broadcast band. Obviously in the UK, this station is a big challenge, but from here, the distance to their transmitter is about 2440 km.

Slightly lost in the forests of Rio Capim...(might not work on mobiles)

Hi there, at this point we didn't know we were lost. That realisation dawned upon us about 10 minutes later. It felt like a bit of an adventure until it got dark and we realised our fuel gauge was in the red! Anyway, despite no mobile phone signal, 3G or 4G we found our way out of it eventually and arrived safely. If it had been up to me, we would have parked up and I'd have set up the Eton and MA305 lol.

Note: Bob Marley is playing on the radio in this clip and I have a notice from YouTube that this video might not play on some devices such as mobile phones etc.

Thanks for watching - if you can lol.

Hi there, I haven't copied this station from the UK since May 2016, so very happy to hear and record them during my DXing session a few days ago, here in Rio Capim. Not a strong signal, but clear enough for discernible recovered audio.

Radio Inconfidencia 6010 kHz, Belo Horizonte, copied in Rio Capim area

Hi there, I checked the log and I've only twice previously heard this signal well enough to make a recording and upload it. I've never copied it before with a portable....even though I'm sort of cheating as I am currently residing in the same country lol. There's a lot of adjacent QRM on this part of the 49 metre broadcast band, which makes this frequency more difficult to copy their signal than on15190 kHz.

Radio Apintie 4990 kHz, Suriname, heard in Rio Capim area, Brazil, with ID

Hi there, this is a PF for me and great to catch not only a new station, but a signal from a new country. The quality of this reception makes it rather obvious why I've never heard them in the UK, although I'm sure others have. A number of clear IDs start here: 03:17

I got my Sony ICF-SW7600G back in Rio Capim!

Hi there, a British gentleman I met on my first visit here wanted to show me a shortwave radio that had been around the world with him - but one which he no longer uses. He's an internet radio guy these days. Anyway, it turned out to be a Sony ICF-SW7600G....a radio that I previously owned many years ago, but sold on eBay. He decided I could keep it. What a nice chap.

CROSS Corsen maritime station, Brest 1650 kHz with ID, heard in Oxford UK

Hi there, no comparison with my copy of this station's weak signal in Belém a week ago; here they are booming into the Rio Capim area, with a clear ID. This has been made possible because I have now found an electrically quiet location to DX whilst I am here. More reception videos in this location to come. Great little set-up with the Eton and Bonito antenna.

Alcaravan Radio 5910 kHz Colombia; weak signal copied on the Icom IC-R75

Hi there, Alcaravan Radio is one of the most difficult SW signals that can be heard in the UK and so I was pleased to finally catch them indoors with a receiver other than the Elad (saying that I think I copied them with the Sony ICF-SW100 indoors once, but that was a couple of years ago).

Here the signal is understandably weak and I would suggest you wear headphones to watch this video. Nevertheless, what a brilliant performer the Icom is.

Hi there, if you have the opportunity, please listen to this recording through headphones and the recovered audio will be heard. Through standard computer speakers, it sounds terrible lol. I tried this with the Icom immediately after having copied TR1 for the first time indoors with the Elad FDM DUO. What an immense little table-top receiver.

Hi there, I don't often record any of the US religious stations, but I felt compelled to do so with this signal because it was so strong and clear - almost as good as a local AM. Once again the compact Boni Whip/ Eton Satellit set-up proves it's worth.

Hi there from Brazil. Here is another recording (taken in the UK) of the signal from Carriacou, Grenada, with the brilliant Icom IC-R75. Radio Brasil Central 4985 kHz copied during power cut (electrical storm)...

Hi there, I can't hear this station in the UK because it's signal is continuously hindered by QRM. However, out in the jungles of Brazil, it's a different story - a clear signal copied during a power cut, caused by a huge electrical storm. The audio is short-lived however....check out what happens as the power switches back on. #veryannoying!

Hi there, this is a very difficult catch in the Europe, primarily because of their reported TX azimuth of 93 degrees. Here the Bonito Boni Whip and Eton Satellit perform really well to deliver audio from a compromised signal in a very crowded part of the 31 metre broadcast band. Prior to copying RTM Sarawak FM in Crete earlier this year with the same set-up, I'd never heard them previously with anything smaller than a 50 metre long-wire.

NHK World Radio Japan 12045 kHz copied with Sony ICF-SW100

Hi there, another comparison of the Bonito MegActive MA305 E-field antenna and a 40 metre longwire, this time using the signal from Myanmar Radio, Yangon. I think this video demonstrates very well that an E-field antenna can 'knock on the door' of longwire performance in a large suburban garden. It's not quite delivering the same SNR, but obviously at a fraction of the space required. Let me know your views.

Rádio Clube do Pará 4885 kHz, Brazil booming in on shortwave, in Belém

Coming in to land at Belém, Pará, Northern Brazil

Hi there, I took this video about two hours ago. Always great to see the surrounding area of this tropical region as you come in to land. I had a good flight and a nice seat with enough space to sit quietly with my laptop for several hours analysing a LOT of MW spectrum captures - I was about a week behind with that, so I had around 30 recordings to look at. I managed to make a small dent in that pile of work lol.

As I type this, I already have the Bonito MegActive MA305 antenna hooked up to my Eton Satellit and I'm copying R.Cultura Ondas, Manaus, pretty well. Also, as you might expect, 4885 kHz is booming lol.

Thanks for watching.

Hi there, since I first copied this signal from Grenada a week or two ago, I managed to hear them again with the brilliant Icom IC-R75. Here is the first of a couple of recordings. I was going to merge them together as one video, but YouTube have removed that facility recently and as I'm sat at Lisbon airport, waiting for my flight to Brazil, I don't have time to mess about with video editing software lol!

Sony ICF-SW100: KCBS Pyongyang 6100 kHz, North Korea

Hi there, I'm reminded of my pun the last time I copied the Pyongyang internal SW service on the diminutive Sony ICF-SW100 - they don't grow on trees lol - although it remains quite a good way of supporting this tiny receiver out on a DXpedition. This is a difficult frequency to hear Pyongyang as they share the channel with Afghanistan, CRI and AIR at one time or another, but this little Sony is superb, both in sensitivity and selectivity.

Hi there, on the morning of the 30th of September, Radio Buenos Aries was coming into my QTH quite strongly and as usual, I recorded their signal with the Elad. I Also decided to record their transmission with the Icom IC-R75 to demonstrate it's performance on MW DX. SSB is the mode of choice when DXing with this radio and my goodness, it did a great job. This time, Fast ASG provided the clearest signal, although conversely that wasn't the case with another MW DX signal I will upload.

Hi there, this signal is much more of a challenge than it's neighbour Rádio Clube do Pará on the 60 metre broadcast band. Having said that, this reception on the excellent Icom IC-R75 is the best I can remember in a long time - possibly the best ever at home.

Best ever home reception of Rádio Clube do Pará, Brazil, 4885 kHz - with...

Hi there, I've been Dxing solidly lol for more than two years now, spending countless hours at home and outdoors listening to signals all over HF. I know what to expect when I'm in the shack and I know what's possible when I'm on a DXpedition. On that basis, this rock-solid SSB copy of Rádio Clube do Pará, at home, with the Wellbrook in the garden shed surprised me greatly. The Icom is clearly a very capable receiver and with time, I'll remember all the tips and tricks to squeeze the very best performance out of it. Thus far, however, the signs are very good indeed.

Hi there, I copied Radio Kuwait last month with the Sony ICF-SW100 and AN-71 reel antenna with a nice signal. Here kuwait is coming into Oxford like a local AM with the brilliant Eton Satellit coupled to the equally brilliant Bonito Boni Whip. I love a little ad-hoc DXing session and with everything ready to go from a mini flight case, every trip out of the house is a potential listening session lol.
