Emisoras Pio XII 5952.5 kHz, Boliva, copied in Rio Capim with Bonito Meg...

Hi there, for obvious reasons this is the strongest signal I've ever copied from Emisoras Pio XII. My relatively close proximity to Siglo Veinte, Bolivia and an excellent compact set-up paying dividends.

Huge signal from Radio Bluebird 1630 kHz AM/ 14 kHz audio filter bandwidth

Hi there, here are my initial impressions of the Tecsun S-8800 and a an overview of the main features/ controls. I was fortunate enough to have been sent this radio to test, in preparation for a magazine review that I am to write. Unfortunately I have to send it back afterwards! Another video to come that summarises performance on LW, MW and SW. Thanks for watching!

MW DX: CBC Radio 1, 750 kHz, Bonavista Bay, Newfoundland & Labrador

Hi there, I've bot heard the signal from Bonavista bay on 750 kHz since August....it's been all YVKS RCR 750 Radio Caracas for the past couple of months. Not the best signal, but that should improve over the coming months.

Hi there, this AIR catch from Bhopal was even more surprising than hearing their signal from Jaipur, which in the UK at least is always stronger and clearer. Although an understandably weak signal, the compact MegActive MA305 antenna does a stirling job, yet again. These AIR regional stations certain can be heard much further afield than their intended audience.

Hi there, here's a big signal from Radio Caroline, Orford Ness, as they conduct test transmissions on 648 kHz. I recorded a couple more videos to check out how modest a receiver would be necessary to copy them. Obviously this is a high-performance SDR and H-field antenna....which isn't very portable lol. Those videos to come. Also note; Radio Caroline is 'all about the music' which is great, but it means it's almost unavoidable to record copyrighted music to avoid a video of about 10 seconds in length. This means the video might not play on mobile phones or gaming systems.

Radio Verdad 4055 kHz LSB, Chiquimula, Guatemala: PERSEUS SDR

Hi there, great to copy YVKS RCR from Caracas, Venezuela with the Perseus. I have been hearing them regularly for several weeks, before I left for Brazil, so it, so great to copy them again upon my return. If you watch through the entire video, there's a bit of experimentation with the ACG and front end settings and at certain points, the recovered audio is quite clear.

Hi there, according to the 2017 Domestic Broadcasting Survey, edited by Anker Petersen, the only remaining active signal on 4825 kHz was La Voz de la Selva, Iquitos Peru. However, my friend Ivan (Regional DX - check out his excellent YouTube channel) confirmed that this signal is in fact Rádio Canção Nova, with a short identification at 3:40 which I missed. Thank you very much to Ivan.

Hi there, nice to finally catch VOCM again - the first time since the summer - and of course the first time with the Perseus. Despite a lot of adjacent channel QRM, the signal is surprisingly clear. As you will see, I adjusted the filtering 'on the fly' so-to-speak and had a general fiddle around, but it sounded pretty good. There's no doubt the Perseus is a superb receiver.

Carrier from MNB Radio 1 Mongolia 209 kHz Longwave observed in Oxford UK

Hi there, there's no audio (just QRM lol) as the signal was far too weak, but nevertheless it was very exciting to finally see some 'evidence' of Mongolia on LW. Of course, this is presumed, alhtough I'm not aware of any other signals on 209 kHz and this doesn't look like local (or otherwise) QRM. I'll keep watching/ listening...you never know. Mongolia on LW is considered by some to be one of the greatest challenges in DXing and it will be a great day when I finally hear them properly!!!

Hi there, it was quite a surprise to hear AIR Jaipur in Rio Capim, although looking back, perhaps it shouldn't have been as this regional station's transmissions are non-directional at 50 kW. Anyway, still a pleasing catch out in the jungle with a compact set-up.

RÚV Rás 1/Rás 2, Gufuskalar Iceland 189 kHz; ELAD FDM DUO SDR

Hi there, with both receivers running simultaneously on the same laptop it was a simple case of clicking over the antenna switch and immediately recording the same signal on the Elad. I can't call it, but you guys might have some views on which receiver delivers the best signal/audio. Let me know.

RÚV Rás 1/Rás 2, Gufuskalar Iceland 189 kHz; PERSEUS SDR

Hi there, here is the first of two videos, comparing the performance of the Perseus SDR receiver against the Elad FDM DUO. This RÚV signal is far more difficult to hear well than their other on 207 KHz, largely because of the presence of significant adjacent channel QRM and additional, local noise that's omi-present at my QTH. At least it makes for a nice and challenging signal to kick off the comparison!

Please note that the settings were adjusted for optimum signal clarity and as such, the receivers are set up differently. In my opinion, there's little or no difference, however I think YouTube has decided this reception is clearer than that of the Elad...let me explain...

Although both videos contain the same song, YouTube only detected copyright infringement on this Perseus reception, not on the Elad video lol.

The Elad reception follows this upload.

Wonderful music on Radio Antena Satelor 153 kHz, Brașov, Romania

Hi there, I simply love the folk music they play on Radio Antena Satelor, often listening until the early hours, when I really should be asleep lol. This listening session was one of my first using the Perseus SDR and some of the more technical of you will notice that I am using the attenuator and the pre-amp at the same time lol, the latter of which definitely wasn't necessary. Nevertheless, the music these guys play is superb IMHO and it sounds great with the Perseus.

Hi there, in a very kind gesture, my buddy Dan Goldfarb offered me his Perseus SDR because he wanted to see it in action with some 'performance' antennas - and of course I was very grateful indeed to accept. Having got it up and running very quickly yesterday on my Windows 10 laptop, I checked out LW to kick things off. Now, despite having almost no experience with the Perseus, it became very obvious, very quickly that this is a superb receiver. Here is easily my best reception of TR1 Watan Radio, Turkmenistan....and it was about the first signal I tuned into. Prior to this, I did recently copy this station at home in the shack with the Eladf FDM DUO, however, the recovered audio was much weaker. This bodes very well and of course I'm looking forward to further testing.

Hi there, I always make a point of trying to copy this station when I'm DXing in the UK in the late afternoon, early evening. Here in Rio Capim, the little Midi does a very decent job of delivering pretty clear audio. Reception with the Eton can be found in the second half of the video. Hi there, I spent a couple of hours one evening last week testing the MD-9500SD - and comparing it against my benchmark - the Eton Satellit. I was a little surprised to catch Radio Pilipinas with this cheap radio. Audio is terrible, but that's sort of ok given the size of the speaker (tiny).
