Automatically tuned stations on the shortwave bands using the Tecsun S2200x coupled to a Wellbrook

 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VDaWUmgOoFs

Hi there, a tune through the bands this morning at around midnight thirty, UK time. There's always something to listen to on shortwave (just not as much as there used to be!). Recorded on 05/05/26 in Oxford UK. Thanks for watching and 73.

Calling into the Harwell Amateur Radio Society Net using 10 Watts from the Icom IC-705 & AH-705

 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=206GBURLSus

Hi there, amazingly, everyone on the net could hear me perfectly well with 10 Watts, rather than the usual 200! Not surprising really given a doubling in TX power is only half an S-unit. But, it was very satisfying to be copied so well with 1/20th of my usual power. Thanks for watching and 73.

United States Air Force HFGCS Emergency Action Message on 4724 kHz, copied with the Icom IC-R8600

 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JbV5H4FI4v8

Hi there, not a perfect signal on 4724 kHz, but a pleasing catch none-the-less. It's always interesting to hear these transmissions, even though I have no idea what they are communicating. Just as well really! Antenna: Wellbrook ALA1530 magnetic loop (outdoors) via a Bonito AntennaJet RF splitter and GI1000 galvanic isolator. Thanks for watching and 73.

First ever copy of Novosibirsk VOLMET, South-Western Siberia on 8888 kHz

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nGRKaeA2xhI

Hi there, it was brilliant to finally hear Novosibirsk VOLMET - and even better on the surprisingly capable Tecsun S-2200X receiver. I think I must give my full purchase recommendation to this rig. It's both interesting and an excellent performer. Recorded at 16:07 hrs on 20/02/26 using a Wellbrook ALA1530 magnetic loop antenna via a Bonito/NTi AntennaJet RF splitter. Thanks for watching and 73.

VMW HF Marine Radio Service, Wiluna, Western Australia 12362 kHZ, copied on the Malahit DSP2

 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p6kuq2H7j_E

Hi there, amazing to hear this signal again - this time on the DSP2. It just never gets old listening to a regional utility station from literally the other side of the world. As for the DSP2 - it's brilliant. End of. Recorded in Oxford UK on 29/04/26 at 22:30 hrs UTC using a Wellbrook ALA1530 magnetic loop antenna, outdoors, via a Bonito/NTi AntennaJet RF splitter. Thanks for watching and 73.

Sydney, Nova Scotia (VCO) Maritime station 2749 kHz USB Canada, improved signal in Oxford UK

 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A9kngb5whlk

Hi there, a better signal from Sydney - amazing how quickly HF propagation conditions can change. As usual, the Eton E1 performs very well indeed with the Wellbrook loop. Recorded in Oxford UK on 15/04/26 at 00:57 hrs UTC using a Wellbrook ALA1530 magnetic loop antenna (outdoors). Thanks for watching and 73.

BBC Radio 4 Shipping Forecast 198 kHz longwave copied with excellent audio on the Malahit DSP2

 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q3e0batOrdc

Hi there, for a small portable, this radio has excellent audio - in part because of the speaker hardware but also because you have a myriad of audio bandwidth options. Just a fantastic portable radio - I highly recommend.

Thanks for watching and 73.

A tune through the shortwave bands using a wire antenna in a noisy office - using the Tecsun S2200x

 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ykIgG6FTZto

Hi there, I wasn't expecting to hear anything at all in this environment, but it just goes to show that there are still a few powerful broadcasters left on shortwave that can push through a very high noise-floor! Thanks for watching and 73.

St. Petersburgh VOLMET 6617 kHz copied with the Tecsun S-2200X receiver and Wellbrook ALA1530

 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BlIBHfEqAOA

Hi there, the modulated audio coming out of St Petersburgh isn't great, but good enough and not a function of the S-2200X demodulation capabilities. I'm becoming increasingliy impressed with this rig. Recorded in Oxford UK on 05/02/26 at 01:34 hrs UTC. Thanks for watching and 73.

United States Air Force HFGCS Emergency Action Message 8992 kHz on Icom IC-R8600

 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i5Jsas0pUVo

Hi there, another USAF EM - perhaps not surprisingly given what's going on the World these days. Only an OK signal which does improve at times throughout the recording. Coupled to a Wellbrook ALA1530 magnetic loop, the Icom IC-R8600 is simply superb. Thanks for watching and 73.

E07 "The English Man" Russian numbers station copied on 14458 kHz with the Tecsun S-2200X

 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CpOPTuAkZvY

Hi there, fantastic to catch E07 again with the S-2200X. Similarly good SSB stability and an even stronger signal with the radio coupled to the ALA1530 magnetic loop. Check transmission times on Priyom.com; recorded in Oxford on 20/02/2026 at 15:20 hrs UTC. Thanks for watching and 73.

New York Radio 5550 kHz ATC: Caribbean, Gulf of Mexico & Florida Waters, copied with Tecsun S-2200X

 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5oQjBNSLICo

Hi there, another first copy for me - New York Radio ATC on the slightly higher frequency of 5550 kHz. Great job from the Tecsun S-2200X. Maybe after all, it is good on HF!

Recorded on 02/02/26 at 01:44 hrs UTC using a Wellbrook ALA1530 magnetic loop antenna (outdoors).

Thanks for watching and 73.

A strong signal from Rádio Nacional da Amazônia 6180 kHz, Brazil, on the Tecsun S-2200X

 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P72EZejb8MA

Hi there, a strong signal from Brazil, but another station in the background can also be heard. I think so far, I would describe the shortwave performance of this rig as adequate. More testing to come and I might change my mind. I want it to be brilliant, but at this stage I'm not sure it will be. Recorded in Oxford UK on 31/01/26 at 01:02 hrs UTC using a Wellbrook ALA1530 magnetic loop antenna (outdoors). Thanks for watching and 73.

 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4tefeBV8_ao

Hi there, a video of me calling into the Harwell Amateur Radio Society Friday night net - it's been a while since I made a recording. BTW the TS990 is still such a great rig, I have no desire to replace it! Thanks and 73.

Ham radio end-fed antenna maintenance - or in other words, cutting down some of next door's tree!

 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t8bkpMMafQs

Hi there, there's nothing more annoying than windy weather when you run an antenna farm lol. Actually there is, when part of it gets caught in a tree, which is what was happening at my QTH. Time to start pruning... Thanks for watching and 73.

Harbour Light of the Windwards 1400 kHz Carriacou, Grenada on the Tecsun S2200X...proper MW DX!

 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dyQOoxKm8W4

Hi there, this is turning out to be a great radio. Portable, of course, but large enough to use as a table-top receiver, with excellent audio, good audio bandwidth filtering and excellent sensitivity on an external antenna. I wonder how good it is on shortwave?! Recorded in Oxford UK on 15/01/25 at 00:54 hrs UTC using a Wellbrook ALA1530 magnetic loop antenna, plugged into the external LW/MW antenna socket. Thanks for watching and 73.

What's left of medium wave? Radio Keralam 1476 kHz, United Arab Emirates copied with the S2200X

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hvQb40qxXb8

Hi there, this is a decent example of DX, demonstrating that the Tecsun S2200X is a very capable receiver on medium wave, if you use a decent antenna! Recorded on 14/01/26 at 01:25 hrs UTC using a Wellbrook ALA1530 magnetic loop antenna (outdoors). Thanks for watching and 73.

 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PM_02LNNsuA

Hi there, Portugal don't have a huge presence on medium wave these days, but there's still some stuff to listen to from that great country! Nicely handled by the S2200X. Recorded in Oxford UK on 13/01/26 at 01:59 hrs UTC using a Wellbrook ALA1530 magnetic loop antenna (outdoors). Thanks for watching and 73.

The woods I used to use DX from in West Oxfordshire have changed a lot

 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zFFFJNF0LH0

Hi there, I went for a mooch with my Sony ICF-SW100 yesterday. The woods are so different these days. A lot of trees were blown over in the various storms over the years and so there's been a lot of planting - which is good. I keep saying I'll take the time to do more DXing there, but I never get around to it. This year!!!! Thanks for watching and 73.

Testing the Tecsun S2200X on single sideband shortwave: Trenton military VOLMET 6754 kHz USB, Canda

This is the first time I've copied Trenton VOLMET on this frequency since my trip to the USA in the summer of 2024. Copied them well in Pittsburgh and Houston...back on the other side of the 'pond' it's a bit more of the challenge. The S2200X held up well.

Recorded on 18/03/26 at 02:25 hrs UTC using a Wellbrook ALA1530 magnetic loop antenna (outdoors) via a Bonito/NTi AntennaJet RF splitter. Thanks for watching and 73.

 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C3_Y9HDxslk

Hi there, just testing the FRG-7700 on a few MW signals. This station in Lithuania almost booms into Oxford, but perhaps not surprisingly with their 75kW TX power. Recorded in Oxford UK on 06/04/26 at 23:11 hrs UTC using a Yaesu FRG-7700 and Wellbrook ALA1530 magnetic loop antenna (outdoors) via a Bonito/NTi AntennaJet RF splitter and GI1000 galvanic isolator. Thanks for watching and 73.

 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dkcu3kMfYF4

Hi there, this is a timely reception giving what's going on in Iran right now and how the United States will respond. Not an easy catch and so I continue to be quite impressed with the S2200X. Recorded in Oxford UK at 01;45 hrs UTC using a Wellbrook ALA1530 magnetic loop antenna via a Bonito NTi AntennaJet RF splitter and a GI1000 galvanic isolator. Thanks for watching and 73.

What's left on medium wave? VOCM 590 kHz Newfoundland & Labrador, copied with the Tecsun S2200X

 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xxN6Cqqkoig

Hi there, here's a nice DX copy from VOCM using the rather good S2200X coupled to one of my Wellbrook ALA1530 magnetic loops. After a stuttering start, I've been impressed with this radio on medium wave and longwave. Not properly tested on shortwave yet, but the signs are very promising. Recorded in Oxford UK on 13/01/25 at 01:16 hrs UTC. Thanks for watching and 73.

 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h0g8aByohb4

Hi there, great to copy a signal from Kuwait on medium wave. This is the Voice of America relay of course, but that's all good as far as I'm concerned. A catch is a catch! Recorded in Oxford UK on 02/04/26 at 00:13 hrs UTC using a Wellbrook ALA1530 magnetic loop antenna via a Bonito/NTi AntennaJet RF splitter. Thanks for watching and 73.

Woken up at 02:37 hrs by a voice on 4925 kHz - spooky-sounding E06 'The English Man' numbers station

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6VUxmC3tWlA

Hi there, I fell asleep DXing and just happened to have the Icom IC-R71E tuned to 4925 kHz. E06 woke me up in the middle of the night. I was half asleep and didn't even think to change the demodulation mode. Anyway, still clear in AM. Recorded on 26/03/26 in Oxford UK using a Wellbrook ALA1530 magnetic loop antenna (outdoors) via a Bonito/NTi AntennaJet RF splitter. Thanks for watching and 73.

What's left on medium wave in the UK? BBC Asian Network 828 kHz only 200 Watts TX power!

Hi there, I love asian music and this station plays a lot of it of course - definitely worth a listen. Only transmitting with 200 Watts of power, but a lovely copy in Oxford.

Recorded on 19/03/26 at 16:32 hrs UTC using a Wellbrook ALA1530 magnetic loop antenna (outdoors) via a Bonito/NTi AntennaJet RF splitter.

Thanks for watching and 73.

Testing the Tecsun S2200X on single sideband shortwave signals: CHU Canada on 7850 and 3330 KHz

 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q6NmJ26UQG8

So it appears that the frequency accuracy of the Tecsun S2200X is actually very good. So close, that it is impossible to check on AM. However, on sideband it reads 120 Hz up. Pretty good IMO. Recorded on 18/03/26 at 02:11 hrs UTC using a Wellbrook ALA1530 magnetic loop antenna (outdoors) via a Bonito/NTi AntennaJet RF splitter. Thanks for watching and 73.

 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pnuNL-YucG4

Hi there, only the 4th time I've copied CFMB...the last being in October 2025. Great to hear them again having spent only a few nights DXing on the MW band. Note the clear ID near the beginning of the video. Recorded in Oxford UK on 10/01/26 at 01:00 hrs UTC using an Icom IC-8600 and Wellbrook ALA1530 magnetic loop antenna via a Bonito?NTi AntennaJet RF splitter and GI1000 galvanic isolator. Thanks for watching and 73.

BBC Radio Wales 882 kHz and BBC Radio scotland 810 kHz both strong signals during the day in Oxford

 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=En5ZVE3LD3g

Hi there, long live Wales and Scotland on medium wave AM radio in the UK. I think they will last because there are very remote regions across those parts of the country. Recorded on 19/03/26 at 16:15 hrs UTC using a superb Yaesu FRG-7 and a Wellbrook ALA1530 magnetic loop antenna (outdoors). via a Bonito/NTi AntennaJet RF splitter. Thanks for watching and 73.

 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FPtBGQwra0s

Hi there, great to hear Antena Satelor with multiple IDs in the afternoon from the UK. You can't hear them in the evenings any more - I miss the great folk music they used to play all night. Recorded on 05/01/26 using a Yaesu FRG-8800 and a Wellbrook ALA1530 magnetic loop antenna, via a Bonito/NTi AntennaJet RF splitter and a GI1000 galvanic isolator. Thanks for watching and 73.

Radio New Zealand Pacific 13755 kHz Bellbird interval signal & ID copied on the OG Yaesu FRG-7700

 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cDiSukoIkU8

Hi there, great to copy my favourite station on shortwave with one of the greats from the 1970s...the iconic FRG-7700. With an excellent reputation for MW DXing, this rig also performs on HF, but it makes me happy just looking at it lol. Recorded in Oxford UK on 18/12/25 at 10:59 hrs UTC using a Bonito/NTi MegaLoop FX antenna. Thanks for watching and 73.

What's left on medium wave? SNRT Al Idaâ Al-Watania 595 kHz Morocco

 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S51Fsl-hzZM

Good to hear Morocco represented so well on AM radio in both the longwave and medium wave bands. Their reported TX power is 50 kW and coming into Oxford quite nicely via the wonderful FRG-8800. Recorded on 19/11/25 at 01:28 hrs UTC using a Wellbrook ALA1530 magnetic loop antenna (outdoors) via a Bonito/NTi AntennaJet RF splitter and GI1000 galvanic isolator. Thanks for watching and 73.

What's left on medium wave: Radio Zuidwester 1332 kHz, IJlst, The Netherlands, only 10W TX power!

 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ztMojzZXweU

Hi there, according to the www.mwlist.org website (which is great by the way), this station in The Netherlands transmits with only 10W of TX power. Never heard them before - it's amazing what you can dig up on medium wave if you actually bother to listen in, night after night. Recorded in Oxford UK on 13/12/25 at 02:18 hrs UTC using a Yaesu FRG-8800 and a Wellbrook ALA1530 magnetic loop antenna (outdoors) via a Bonito/NTi AntennaJet RF splitter and GI1000 galvanic isolator. Thanks for watching and 73.

Radio New Zealand Pacific 13755 kHz copied at 10 am UTC in the UK using the Icom IC-R8600 + Bose

 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SjZ4w-eUoak

Hi there, a bit later on the morning, the signal from New Zealand picked up somewhat. It still blows my mind that I'm intercepting electromagnetic radiation generated on the other side of the planet! Here the audio is enhanced via the Bose SoundLink Mini 2 speaker. Rather nice I think given the miles and miles lol. Reception obtained using a Wellbrook ALA1530 magnetic loop antenna via a Bonito/NTi AntennaJet RF spitter and GI1000 galvanic isolator. Thanks for watching and 73.

What's left on medium wave? Trans World Radio 1377 kHz Gavar, Armenia booming into Oxford, UK

 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=thmzUOEiWb0

Hi there, it's been a long time since I copied TWR on this frequency. Great to hear them still on-air and of course, their signal booms into Southern England at least with their reported 1MW of TX power. Their TX location is strategically important because they're able to target Europe, the Middle East and Central Asia with one transmitter. Recorded in Oxford UK on 10/11/25 at 19:59 UTC using a Yaesu FRG-8800 and a Wellbrook ALA1530 magnetic loop antenna (outdoors) via a Bonito/NTi AntennaJet RF splitter and GI 1000 galvanic isolator. Thanks for watching and 73.

USAF Emergency Action Message tests on 8992 kHz: callsigns "Sanwick" and "Soda Pop"

Hi there, Claude couldn't find "Sanwick" or "Soda Pop" indexed within EAM information on the web, but then perhaps that's not surprising, HFGS callsigns are regularly rotated. Anyway, maybe someone out there has more information.

What's left on medium wave? Radio Tehran 1332 kHz copied from Oxford UK at a distance of 4480 km

 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-snllVXW2R8

Hi there, great to hear a signal on medium wave at this distance from my QTH. Even with a reported TX power of 300 kW, this signal wasn't exactly booming in on the Yaesu FRG-7700. I think I can obtain a higher quality copy with a better receiver, but I'm pleased anyway. Recorded in Oxford UK on 14/11/25 at 02:07 hrs UTC using a Wellbrook ALA1530 magnetic loop antenna (outdoors) via a Bonito/NTi AntennaJet RF splitter and GI1000 galvanic isolator. Thanks for watching and 73.

Comparing the best two shortwave portables of all time: Sony ICF-2001D & Eton E1 via a Bose speaker

 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bFjP4XMAuF0

Hi there, here's another comparison of these two brilliant radios but with audio via my Bose SoundLink Mini 2 speaker. Sort of helps to further level up the playing field. To my ears, the reception is the same, but the audio is still slightly superior on the E1. Let me know your views. By the way, I'm using the signal from Radio New Zealand Pacific as the target. Recorded in Oxford UK on 14/11/25 at 11:19 hrs UTC using a Wellbrook ALA 1530 magnetic loop antenna (outdoors) via a Bonito/NTi AntennaJet RF splitter. Thanks for watching and 73

Rare 40 metre band afternoon copy of Radio New Zealand Pacific 7390 kHz using the Tecsun S-2200X

Hi there, I can almost never catch RNZP on 40 metres during daylight hours, so to hear them this afternoon was very surprising indeed. The the best of signals, obviously, but great to hear them at all. Recorded in Oxford UK on 03/02/26 at 15:39 hrs UTC using a Wellbrook ALA1530 magnetic loop antenna (outdoors). Thanks for watching and 73.

A review of the World Radio and TV Handbook 2026 E-Book edition

Hi there, don't be a saddo like me and spend the rest of your DXing career slamenting about the death of the printed version of the WRTH. Instead, embrace the continuation of this invaluable publication via the E-Book format. It actually works very wel and in my opinion, gives an experience that is much closer to the hard copy book than their web version. Either way, we have to do our bit to support the publishers because this has to be commercially viable for them, otherwise the WRTH will die forever. Thanks for watching and 73.

What's left on medium wave? Manx Radio 1368 kHz, Douglas-Foxdale, Isle of Man booming into Oxford

 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iG9HPEAJzCQ

Hi there, great to have the Isle of Man Radio still booming in after all these years. They play great music - which means you have to be careful what to record as a reception video because the dreaded YT algorithyms will get you lol.

Recorded in Oxford UK on 10/11/25 at 23:55 UTC using a Yaesu FRG-8800 and a Wellbrook ALA1530 magnetic loop antenna (outdoors) via a Bonito/NTi AntennaJet RF splitter and GI 1000 galvanic isolator.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aVlOtgiahXw

Hi there, interesting to hear this signal on medium wave again at such a distance from my QTH. The JRC NRD525 is such a brilliant rig - I don't use it enough!

Testing the Tecsun S-2200X on shortwave: HSW Bangkok Meteorological Radio 8743 KHz

Hi there, what a nice catch on the S-2200X. The signal isn't great, but then it never is from my part of the world, but when I consider I have several radios not capable of copying this signal, it says a lot about the sensitivity of the S-2200X with a good antenna.

Recorded in Oxford UK on 20/01/26 at 00:07 hrs UTC using a Wellbrook ALA1530 magnetic loop antenna. Thanks for watching and 73.

What's left on medium wave? Radio Algérie Internationale 531 kHz copied on the Yaesu FRG-100

Algeria is certainly one of the biggest supporters of AM radio in our region - and here they are again with their international programming. Great to copy them and further proof that AM isn't dead yet!

Recorded on 09/11/25 at 01:59 hrs UTC using a Yaesu FRG-100 via a Wellbrook ALA1530 magnetic loop antenna (outdoors) via a Bonito/NTi AntennaJet RF splitter and GI1000 galvanic isolator. Thanks for watching and 73.

Longwave stations coming into Oxford UK quite nicely in the afternoon copied on the Sony ICF-SW55

Hi there, thanks again to Graham, aka Radio Cruncher for sorting out my beloved ICF-SW55. Here are some daylight-hour longwave signals from Romania, Morocco, Algeria and Poland on the Sony, which just makes me feel good, lol.

USAF Emergency Action Message on 4724 kHz copied with the vintage Yaesu FRG-8800

Hi there, great to finally hear another EAM on this frequency after quite some time - about 6 months I think. As usual, the FRG-8800 delivers - and is a pleasure to use.

I won't say when this was recorded because it won't help you hear it again lol.

Thanks for watching and 73.

Copying radio hams on the 40 metre band with the Tecsun S-2200X

Hi there, a quick tune through the 40 metre amateur band, copying a few transmissions on the very nice Tecsun S-2200X. SSB audio and stability is rather good. Not perfect by any means, but still a useful rig to have in the shack.

Copied using a Wellbrook ALA1530 magnetic loop antenna (outdoors).

Thanks for watching and 73.
