WANTED: The correct email address to send a reception report to Radio Mosoj Chaski 3310 kHz!

Hi there, if any of my radio friends out there have an email address for Radio Mosoj Chaski in Boliva, I'd be very grateful. Good DX to you all and 73!

QSL card from Radio Transmundial 5965 kHz, Santa Maria, Brazil

Hi there, our friend Rudolf Grimm suggested I send off for a QSL card after posting my reception video of their signal at the end of July last year. I duly received a very nice eQSL and thought no more about it. But low and behold, a couple of weeks ago a letter arrived in the post from Sao Paolo, Brazil with a hard copy. Very welcome indeed! I actually had to look up my reception to remind myself (I've uploaded over 1,500 videos in total) and it transpires that Radio Transmundial is one of the most difficult South American stations to be heard in Europe. A fact that had escaped me over the past 12 months lol. Anyway, he's a short commentary on the whole business!

Thank you to the 1000 friends and subscribers of Oxford Shortwave Log!

Hi there, a short update and thank you to all my friends and subscribers here on YouTube. There was a time when I couldn't imagine having 100 subscribers, so this is amazing. Thanks for watching and I wish you all great DX!

Eton E1: Radio Santa Cruz, 6134.8 kHz LSB, Santa Cruz, Boliva

Hi there, well this is a first for me - not the catch itself of course, but the fact I managed to copy a discernible signal from their TX site in Bolivia with a radio other than the Elad FDM DUO operating via the FDM-SW2 software - i.e. a full blown SDR. Furthermore, this is a portable I'm using!!! The E1 is clearly a superb receiver, but a DXpedition test against the Sony ICF-2001D will answer the question as to the 'best of all time'!

Recorded in Oxford UK on 29/07/17 at 01:07 hrs UTC using a Wellbrook ALA1530 outdoors. Thanks for watching.

Eton E1: Radio Nacional de Guinea Ecuatorial 6250 kHz, Malabo, superb music

Hi there, the first outing on the channel for the Eton E1.....supposedly the best portable ever produced - and certainly the only one with the all-round performance to challenge the legendary Sony ICF-2001D/2010. When I first copied Malabo a couple of nights ago, the local QRM around 6250 kHz was pretty bad with the Wellbrook in the garden and it's still there in this recording, but the E1 still produces strong, clear recovered audio. I have to say, the music they're playing from Malabo is absolutely superb. If I knew what some of it was I'd be downloading it from iTunes.

I can already tell from this recording that the E1 is a very special radio, there's no doubt about that. However, to test it's full capabilities requires a trip to the woods. Until then, I've a couple more reception videos from the shack.

Recorded in Oxford UK on 29/07/17 at 00:40 hrs UTC using a Wellbrook ALA1530 outdoors. Thanks for watching.

Alcaravan Radio 5910 kHz, Colombia heard with the Eton Satellit and Sang...

Hi there, as many of you will know, hearing Alcaravan Radio in Europe is one of the bigger challanges for the shortwave DXer. Here is a nice signal on both of these portables which I suppose is a result in itself. I think the recovered audio from the Eton is clearer, but hey, after a lot of negative press, isn't it great to hear this exotic station on the Sangean??!! I think so anyway lol.

Recorded in Oxford UK on 13/05/17 at 00:42 hrs UTC. Ignore the clock time-difference, there was only a few seconds between recordings. Thanks for watching.

Radio Sonder Grense 3320 kHz, Meyerton South Africa, reception at home o...

Hi there, great to hear Radio Sonder Grense's signal on 90 metres with the vintage FRG-7700! Restored by RadioCruncher, earlier this year, it's now fully working again and hopefully good for another 40 years.

Recorded in Oxford UK on 27/07/17 around 01:45 hrs UTC using a Wellbrook ALA1530 active loop outdoors.

FM DX via Sporadic-E: Svitle Radio Emmanuyil 67.82 MHz, L'viv, Ukraine

Hi there, another reception of this Ukrainian station which was very pleasing to hear at the time.

Recorded in Oxford UK on 15/06/17 at 18:37 hrs UTC using an Sangean ATS-909x receiver and the internal telescopic antenna.

Radio Nacional de Guinea Ecuatorial 6250 kHz, Malabo (presumed) back on air

Hi there, my friend Chuck (NSNorfolk) messaged me this morning to let me know he had a signal with African music on 6250 kHz, suggesting Equatorial Guinea were back on air after several years. This is a PF for me because although I'm sure I have heard them previously, I can't remember a specifically. As regards the quite heavy QRM, this video is an excellent example as to why I rarely bother moving the loop into the garden!

Recorded in Oxford on 27/07/17 around 01:45 hrs UTC using a Yaesu FRG-8800 and Wellbrook ALA1530 active loop antenna (outdoors).

Longwave DX: Iceland RÚV Rás 2, 189/207 KHz comparing Elad FDM DUO and Y...

Hi there, heres a quick comparison of the performance of the Elad FDM DUO and Yaesu FRG-8800 on longwave using the Wellbrook ALA1530 active loop antenna outside. A decent signal from Iceland and I believe at this time of night the programming is Rás 2.

Recorded in Oxford on 26/07/17 around 02:00 hrs UTC. Thanks for watching.

Rádio Evangelizar (formerly Radio RB2) 6040.7 kHz, Curitba, Brazil

Hi there, this station can sometimes be heard very well on my DX'peditions, but is a very rare catch at home - this the first time since April last year. I've made the point previously, but the Elad FDM-SW2 SYNC mode is really excellent in coaxing audio from very weak signals, even in the presence of local QRM. Signal recorded on 25/07/17 at 00:51 hrs UTC using an Elad FDM DUO and Wellbrook ALA1530 active loop antenna, outdoors. Thanks for watching - and to Rob Wagner for confirming the station name-change in June.

DX via Sporadic-E: Laikos FM 87.6 MHz from Thessaloniki, Greece, on Sang...

My radio friend Thanos Thessaloniki confirmed this ID of this station - it's actually his local FM station in Greece, so thank you very much indeed to him!

Recorded in Oxford UK on 11/06/17 at 18:39 hrs UTC using the telescopic antenna. Thanks for watching. 73! Clint

Radio Verdad 4055 kHz LSB Guatemala, recorded at the shack in Oxford

Hi there, here is a faint but quite clear signal from Radio Verdad in Guatemala, copied at my QTH in Oxford. The first time I've recorded their signal at home without driving the Elad from my laptop - and I'm very pleased with the result.

Recorded on 22/07/17 at 01:45 hrs UTC using a Wellbrook ALA1530 active loop antenna, outdoors.

Eton Satellit sensitivity on the whip: Voice of Indonesia 9526 KHz, Jakarta

Hi there, I've not previously heard this station on the whip of any receiver - but that's primarily because I've not tried! Having said that, I thought this was very impressive from the Eton, the sensitivity of which, has been questioned previously when just using the telescopic.

Recorded in Oxford UK on 20/07/17 at 17:43 hrs UTC. Thanks for watching.

Eton Satellit sensitivity on the whip: Radio Bangladesh Betar 13580 kHz,...

Hi there, a strong signal from Bangladesh demonstrating very nice performance from the Eton on the whip (which is very short at around a couple of feet long).

Recorded in Oxford UK on 20/07/17 at 17:28 hrs UTC. Thanks for watching.

Eton Satellit sensitivity on the whip: KBCS Pyongyang 11680 kHz, North ...

Hi there, despite an understandably weak signal with fading, I thought this was massively impressive from the Eton. I did copy this station with 6 metres of wire and the Sony ICF-SW100 a while back, but other than that, nothing with less than 30 metres of wire.

Recorded in Oxford UK on 20/07/17 at 17:18 hrs UTC. Thanks for watching.

Eton Satellit sensitivity on the whip: Voice of Korea 12015 kHz, North K...

Hi there, this is the first in a short series of reception videos demonstrating the sensitivity of the Eton Satellit on it's whip antenna (which is pretty short at around two feet long).

I think this is pretty nice reception considering, let me know your thoughts.

Recorded in Oxford UK on 20/07/17 at 17:11 hrs UTC. Thanks for watching.

Father and son Dxpedition! Radio Hargeysa 7120 kHz, Somaliland, clear ea...

Great to catch Radio Hargeysa in the early evening during this DXing session with my boy. He was amazed at all the signals we recorded with the tiny Sony - he's used to broadband internet - i.e. the whole world 'wired up' lol, not radio signals over these distances.

Recorded in Oxford UK on 19/07/17 around 18:30 hrs UTC. Thanks for watching.

Father and son Dxpedition! Radio Guinée on 9650 kHz, Conakry

Despite rather severe adjacent channel QRM from CRI, we finally managed to get a decent signal from Guinea on the Sony ICF-SW100 with the AN-71 antenna. My boy thought it was quite amazing to hear a signal from Africa on a tiny piece of electronics - built more than a decade before he was born lol.

Recorded in Oxford UK on 19/07/17 around 18:20 hrs UTC. Thanks for watching.

Father and son DXpedition! Voice of Nigeria 7255 kHz, Ikorodu

Hi there, I took my boy on a DXpedition to the woods for the first time, the evening before last and we had a great time relaxing in the (relatively) balmy weather, tuning around the shortwave bands with the mini-marvel that is the Sony ICF-SW100 clipped to the Sony AN-71 reel antenna. He might be more interested in his Playstation 4 right now, but I live in hope lol.

Recorded in Oxford UK on 19/07/17 around 18:15 hrs UTC. Thanks for watching.

Hard-core DX with the Bonito MegActive MA305: Radio Voz Missionaria 5940...

Hi there, very nice reception of this difficult-to-hear signal in Europe with the Sony/Bonito combo. Another example of how a portable radio (albeit a very good one in this instance) and a relatively cheap, portable antenna will nearly always deliver superior DX to megabucks receivers and even very large antennas at home.

Recorded in the woods in Oxford UK on 03/06/17 at 23:54 hrs UTC using a Sony ICF-2001D receiver. Thanks for watching.

Sangean ATS-909x versus Eton Satellit: CKZN 6160 kHz, St Johns Canada (m...

Hi there, I checked last night and there was still no signal from CKZN on my spectrum. Does anyone know their current status? This is my only remaining recording of their signal and so I thought I should upload it. An excellent performance from both of these receivers, but once more the recovered audio is clearer with the Eton. As usual, I'd appreciate your views. Recorded in Oxford UK on 13/05/17 at 00:56 hrs UTC. Ignore the clock time-difference, there was only a few seconds between recordings. Thanks for watching.

FM DX via Sporadic-E: Sveriges Radio P1, 87.9 MHz, Stockholm, Sweden

Hi there, this is presumed as there is no ID, but very likely the source of this radio play transmission. Once again, my sincere thanks to senderjaeger for help with the ID and in the meantime, please let me have your comments.

Recorded in Oxford on 18/06/17 at 18:06 hrs UTC using a Tecsun PL-310ET and the built-in telescopic antenna. Thanks for watching.

HCJB Quito 6050 kHz, Quito Ecuador, heard with the Bonito MegActive MA30...

Hi there, another very nice DX signal copied with the Sony ICF-2001D and the Bonito MegActive MA305 USB-powered antenna. Once again a great result from a compact set-up. Recorded in the woods in Oxford UK on 03/06/17 at 00:05 hrs UTC. Thanks for watching.

Radio Sonder Grense 3320 kHz, Meyerton South Africa, first non-SDR recep...

Hi there, here is another first non-SDR reception at home and again with the Yaesu FRG-8800. This radio sits around in my shack for months without ever being switched on which is a bit of a shame - I used to be glued to it every night lol. Nice to hear a distant signal on this vintage radio - definitely a keeper!

Recorded in Oxford UK on 17/07/17 around 02:30 hrs UTC.

Rádio Nacional de Angola 4949.7 kHz first non-SDR reception at home

Hi there, a weak signal from Angola heard on my Yaesu FRG-8800 receiver and the Wellbrook ALA1530 (indoors). This is the first time I've heard Angola at home on any radio other then the Elad. It's interesting that I mentioned to a friend yesterday, in most cases, DX can be heard more clearly outdoors with a modest world band receiver and a length of wire of a relatively cheap E-field antenna than at home with expensive equipment. Nevertheless, this was a pleasing catch on the vintage Yaesu. Thanks for watching.

Recorded in Oxford UK on 17/07/17 around 02:15 hrs UTC.

Sangean ATS-909x versus Eton Satellit: XEPPM Radio Educación 6184.99 kHz...

Hi there, this station in Mexico City is one of the rarer catches in Europe - particularly to hear well. Again the signal is clearer on the Eton Satellit but nevertheless, it's very pleasing to demonstrate a signal of this difficulty can be heard on the ATS-909x. As usual, let me know your thoughts/opinions.

Recorded in Oxford UK on 13/05/17 at 00:59 hrs UTC using a 50 metre longwire antenna. Ignore the time differences, there was only a few seconds between recordings.

Medium wave DX: WMEX Boston 1510 kHz; my last recording before they clos...

Hi there, WMEX Boston Talk Radio closed down on the 30th of June 2017 and the FCC will revoke the station's license if it isn't reinstated by the current owner or a buyer within a year. In the meantime, the1510 kHz channel is open for other 'DX'. Let's see what happens. My thanks to senderjaeger for giving me the news a few days ago.

Recorded in Oxford UK on 04/06/17 at 22:24 hrs UTC using an Elad FDM DUO and Wellbrook ALA150 active loop antenna. Thanks for watching.

Sangean ATS-909x versus Eton Satellit: Radio Difusora Roraima 4875 kHz, ...

Hi there, excellent reception of Radio Difusora Roraima and certainly typical of what's possible from the UK at least, when you remove yourself and your radios lol from local QRM. Once again the filtering on the Eton results in clearer audio, but again, I find myself feeling good about hearing some very nice DX on the 909x. As always, please feel free to let me know your views.

Recorded in Oxford UK on 13/05/17 at 01:38 hrs UTC using a 50 metre longwire antenna. Ignore the time differences, there was only a few seconds between recordings - and the 'Radio NL' stored in one of the 909x memories by the factory. I've since deleted all entries. Thanks for watching.

Sangean ATS-909x versus Eton Satellit: Radio Tarma Internacional 4775 kH...

Radio Tarma is one of those rather exotic stations on the Tropical Band that can at times be copied at home with the Wellbrook ALA1530, but requires a trip out, away from the ubiquitous QRM to be heard well. I think in terms of signal clarity, the Eton has got this, but, it's so nice to hear 'proper' hard-core DX on the previously much maligned 909x. Makes me feel good lol. Anyway, as always, please let me know your opinions!

Recorded in Oxford UK on 13/05/17 at 01:48 hrs UTC using a 50 metre longwire antenna. Ignore the time differences, there was only a few seconds between recordings - oh and ignore the 'Radio NL' stored in one of the 909x memories by the previous owner; I've since deleted all entries. Thanks for watching.

Recorded in Oxford UK on 13/05/17 at 01:34 hrs UTC using a 50 metre longwire antenna. Ignore the clock time-difference, there was only a few seconds between recordings. Thanks for watching.

Rádio Nacional de Angola 4949.73 kHz: unprecedented indoor reception

Hi there, I'm not sure what happened, but this indoor reception of Rádio Nacional de Angola was simply amazing. I've never previously heard their signal so well with my indoor set-up; this sounds more like 100 metre longwire reception lol. Great music as well.

Recorded in Oxford UK on 31:05/17 at 23:37 hrs UTC using an Elad FDM DUO and Wellbrook ALA1530 active loop antenna. Thanks for watching.

XEPPM Radio Educación 6184.99 kHz Mexico City, 1 kW TX, rare indoor capture

Hi there, this is one of the rarest indoor catches at my QTH. With their very low TX power, this signal hasn't been heard indoors for about a year, thus a very pleasing catch. Once again, the Elad/Wellbrook combo works so well to deliver discernible audio.

Recorded in Oxford UK on 31/05/17 at 01:16 HRS UTC using an Elad FDM DUO and Wellbrook ALA1530 active loop antenna. Thanks for watching.

FM DX via Sporadic-E: Ukrainian signal copied in Oxford UK; presumed to ...

Hi there, many thanks to my radio friends abradox_dxing and TheValtss for confirming the source of this signal as being from Ukraine. According to FM List it could be either UR1 or UR3.

Recorded in Oxford UK on 15/06/17 at 18:27 hrs UTC using an Sangean ATS-909x receiver and the internal telescopic antenna.

FM DX via Sporadic-E: Svitle Radio Emmanuyil 67.82 MHz, L'viv, Ukraine

Hi there, another fine performance from the Sangean ATS-909x and another signal from Ukraine. My sincere thanks to Matthias (senderjaeger) for confirming the ID. I couldn't get any further than a suspicion based on headache-inducing online research lol.

Recorded in Ocford UK on 15/06/17 at 18:34 hrs UTC using an Sangean ATS-909x receiver and the internal telescopic antenna.

Radio Voz Missionaria 5940 kHz Camboriu, Brazil, best indoor signal on 4...

Hi there, another recording (about an hour later than my previous upload) of their signal which was stronger and clearer than I'd ever heard previously with my indoor set-up. Still feel amazing after 18 months of using the Elad/Wellbrook combo that you can copy low power regional stations from South America with an indoor antenna.

Recorded in Oxford UK on 31/05/17 at 00:54 hrs UTC using an Elad FDM DUO and Wellbrook ALA1530 active loop antenna (indoors). Thanks for watching.

CKZN St. Johns 6159.96 kHz Canada, best indoor reception to date

Hi there, as I was tuning around last night I hoped to see and hear a signal on 6160 kHz, but alas, it was not to be - they're still off-air for their 'who's listening' trial. I hope they don't go the same way as Radio Australia, but I've a strong feeling they will, unless they hear from lots of their target audience listeners - of which I am not one. Fingers crossed anyway. This reception right at the end of May was excellent - easily the best signal I'd ever heard with my indoor set-up.

Recorded in Oxford UK on 31/05/17 at 00:29 hrs UTC using an Elad FDM DUO and Wellbrook ALA1530 active loop antenna (indoors).

FM DX via Sporadic-E: UR 3 Radio Kultura 67.04 MHz, Lviv, Ukraine, Tecsu...

Hi there, fantastic to hear a station on FM that's approximately 1780 km from my QTH in Oxford. If any further evidence was necessary to prove what a fantastic little radio the Tecsun PL-310ET is, well, this is it! Once again, my sincere thanks to Matthias for confirming the ID. I was fairly sure it was Ukraine, but one has to bow to superior knowledge and experience, when appropriate!

Recorded in Oxford UK on 17/06/17 at 16:06 hrs UTC using the built-in telescopic antenna. Thanks for watching.

FM DX via Sporadic-E: RDP Antena 1, Serra da Lousa, Portugal on 87.9 MHz

Hi there, this is a PF for me; I've never copied HM01 on this frequency previously. In fact, I've only copied the 'Spanish Lady' 5 times in total, so really pleasing. Brilliant job by the venerable Sony and MA305.

Radio Mali 5995 kHz, Bamako, copied using Bonito MegActive MA305 antenna

Hi there, as I'm sure most you you guys are aware, Mali is one of the most difficult stations to copy with discernible audio. How many nights have I spent looking at their (relatively) huge carrier and not heard any audio. Talking about low modulation doesn't do them any justice lol. Always requiring a DXpedition to the woods or somewhere else that's very quiet with a large antenna to hear any audio - here they are at the first attemp with the MA305 and the standard 22 cm radiating element. Superb job in my opinion.

Recorded in the woods in Oxford UK on 03/06/17 at 22:51 hrs UTC using a Sony ICF-2001D receiver. Thanks for watching.

Superb signal from Myanmar Radio 5985 kHz, Yangon with Bonito MegActive ...

Hi there, this is my best reception of Myanmar Radio to-date and considering some of the other antennas I've used in the past - longwires, the ALA1530 etc., this all adds up to another very convincing performance with the MA305.

Recorded in the woods in Oxford UK on 03/06/17 at 23:02 hrs UTC using a Sony ICF-2001D receiver. Thanks for watching.

Excellent signal from Emisoras Pio XII 5952.5 kHz, Boliva, with the Boni...

Hi there, this is my best-ever reception of Emisoras Pio XII with a portable radio. Previously I've heard their signal very well, but only with a longwire antenna and/ or the Elad. This performance with a 22 cm radiating element is really something else. I didn't think it possible - proved wrong yet again! I'm very happy about that by the way!

Recorded in the woods in Oxford UK on 03/06/17 at 23:08 hrs UTC using a Sony ICF-2001D receiver. Thanks for watching.

Hi there, yet another very difficult signal to hear in Europe without a large antenna - caught at the first attempt with this Bonito E-field set-up. Most impressive.

Recorded in the woods in Oxford UK on 03/06/17 at 23:43 hrs UTC using a Sony ICF-2001D receiver. Thanks for watching.

Amazing signal from Rádio Clube do Pará, Brazil, 4885 kHz using the Boni...

Hi there, this reception of Rádio Clube do Pará is one of my best - and better than anything I've heard with the Wellbrook ALA1530. Says it all really.

Recorded in the woods in Oxford UK on 03/06/17 at 23:30 hrs UTC using a Sony ICF-2001D receiver. Thanks for watching.

Hard-core DX with the Bonito MegActive MA305: Rádio Nacional de Angola ...

Hi there, another example of how brilliant the MA305 antenna really is. Here is fully discernible audio from Angola - one of the most difficult stations to hear in Europe. Previously this station would always require a longwire to hear well.

Recorded in the woods in Oxford UK on 03/06/17 at 23:22 hrs UTC using a Sony ICF-2001D receiver. Thanks for watching.

Hard-core DX with the Bonito MegActive MA305: Rádio Educação Rural 4925....

Hi there, a weak signal, but that's not the point really. To hear this station at all with a 22 cm long antenna is so impressive. Rádio Educação Rural is in longwire territory, so the Bonito/Sony combination here is almost performing miracles lol

Recorded in the woods in Oxford UK on 03/06/17 at 23:49 hrs UTC using a Sony ICF-2001D receiver. Thanks for watching.

Hard-core DX with the Bonito MegActive MA305: Radio Tarma 4775 kHz, Peru

Hi there, another very rare catch in Europe and one that I've only heard twice indoors in more than a year. First time out on a proper DXpedition with the MA305 and it delivers discernible audio from this very exotic station. Superb!

Recorded in the woods in Oxford UK on 03/06/17 at 23:35 hrs UTC using a Sony ICF-2001D receiver. Thanks for watching.

Hard-core DX with the Bonito MegActive MA305: Radio Voz Missionaria 5940...

Hi there, this station can be heard in the shack on occasion, however, copy of this quality has always previously required a large antenna. Another example of the real DXing credentials of this superb Bonito antenna.

Hi there, if you thought the reception of CKZN St John's was special, in my opinion, this weaker copy of Alcarvan Radio is even more amazing. This station is incredibly difficult to hear at all in Europe and to copy music from them using a 22 cm antenna says it all. Obviously you get the best performance (i.e. SNR) from an E-field antenna in an electrically quiet environment, but wow, the results are something else. When you consider price and portability, this performance is quite incredible.

Recorded in the woods in Oxford UK on 03/06/17 at 00:39 hrs UTC using a Sony ICF-2001D receiver. Thanks for watching.

Hi there, reception of this quality from CKZN, bearing in mind their TX power of 1 kW (currently stated as 300 W) has only previously been possible with a lonqwire antenna, of up to 100 metres. Here is an amazingly clear signal using the brilliant MegActive MA305 E-field antenna with a 22 cm long radiator element. Astounding. Extremely light, totally portable and powered from a USB power brick that seems to go on for days without needing to be recharged, it's perfect for DXpeditions. More to come.

Hi there, my goodness there were trials and tribulations getting SDR# and RDS Spy working together! However my perseverance paid off and I now have a decent SDR FM DXing set-up, with a fully featured RDS system. If there's enough interest, I can record another video that fully explains (and demonstrates) the software set-up. Thanks for watching.
