Reach Beyond Australia, Voice of Korea + many more copied with the MLite-880 and £35 indoor antenna

 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rYuJoo32K9I

Hi there, it seems possible to copy some really nice DX with a good radio and a magnetic loop antenna, indoors. My antenna combo of passive magnetic loop and low impedance converter amp works very well indeed - and at such a low price. Recorded in Oxford UK on 09/10/2026 at 13:53 hrs UTC. Thanks for watching and 73.

MLite-880: chasing a signal that will deliver the best possible audio: Vatican Radio on 9580 kHz

 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XDhlyP6EX9M

Hi there, I am learning fast that unless using sideband, all AM signals on this radio require some level of noise reduction to deliver the highest possible audio quality. This signal from the Vatican was 9.5 kHz wide (as measured on my Elad FDM DUOr) and as such that filter width was applied here. Anyway, the result was perfectly acceptable audio that I felt I could listen to for some time.

Recorded in Oxford UK on 15/09/26 at 23:28 hours UTC using a Wellbrook ALA1530 magnetic loop antenna.

Thanks for watching and 73.

I decided to power my £20 passive magnetic loop with an even cheaper amplifier - surprising results

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_44cO4637C0

Hi there, a commentary on what's good about the passive magnetic loop - which mostly boils down to copying weak signals that can't be heard on my indoor wire. However, I need an antenna that delivers decent signal strength with acceptable signal-to-noise for general shortwave listening. I think I have a solution that only cost me around £35. Thanks for watching and 73.

Almost no copy from Rádio Nacional Amazônia on 6180 kHz, but 11780 kHz coming in quite nicely

 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pa5t9PPGGxo

Hi there, surprised to hear almost no signal from Radio on 6180 kHz, but at least 11780 was coming in quite well. So far go good WRT the NRD535...no doubt it's a superbly engineered radio. Recorded in Oxford UK using my amateur radio end-fed wire antenna on 13/06/26 at 00:31 hrs UTC. Thanks for watching and 73.

Impressive temporary G5RV and Collinear antenna set-up at the local JOTA event

've never seen a more impressive temporary antenna set-up, anywhere lol. I thought it worth of a few words of praise! Thanks for watching and 73.

I plan to record a series of videos on how to copy DX with a cheap radio/indoor magnetic loop set up

 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cf333Ce8LVI

Hi there, I think it would be interesting to figure out whether it is possible to copy real DX with a £20 passive magnetic loop - indoors, coupled to a modestly priced radio - such as the PL-368, for example. Here I describe the idea whilst enjoying the sunshine and warm weather on the 4th of October in Oxford, UK. Thanks for watching and 73.

Radio Tarma 4775 kHz Peru with multiple IDs after the hour, copied with the JRC NRD535 and long wire

 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kdHknGY1GFA

Hi there, another copy of Radio Tarma, this time with multiple IDs after the hour. Hearing these guys never gets old! Recorded in Oxford UK on 17/06/26 at 00:58 hrs UTC using an end-fed long wire antenna. Thanks for watching and 73.

HCJB Voice of Andes 6050 kHz Ecuador, recorded on the JRC NRD535 using my amateur radio end-fed wire

 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J6kVW6dyFE8

Hi there, here is readable audio from Ecuador on my end-fed wire antenna, coupled to the NRD535. What a brilliant set-up. The wire is working really well on South American DX right now. Recorded in Oxford UK on 13/06/26 at 00:19 hrs UTC. Thanks for watching and 73.

More bad news for longwave: Medi 1 from Nador, Morocco, on 171 kHz closed permanently

 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3eaTtW3X3IE

Hi there, very sad to report we will never hear Morocco on 171 kHz again. They have been absent from the longwave band for a few weeks ago and the inevitable has now been confirmed. That just leaves Romania, Poland and Algeria in or near Europe and Mongolia which is almost impossible to catch from my QTH. Thanks for watching and 73.

September 30th sunshine, MLite-880 v1.59 firmware and a 15 quid preamp for my passive magnetic loop

 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yKDCZvTZ7uE

Hi there, I'm still enjoying the late September sunshine and warmth - it was about 23 degrees today but the sun felt hot! I can still pretend it's summer lol. A bit more on the MLite-880 with an update to the firmware and a cheap amplifier for my passive loop that only cost 15 quid, so it sort of doesn't matter if it doesn't work very well! Thanks for watching and 73.

MLite-880: intial testing on sideband with a tune up and down the 40m amateur radio band

 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mm8aB4GHdOo

Hi there, managed to copy a few signals around 7 MHz...the frequency display is actually very accurate, only a few Hz out - and I believe it can be adjusted. Overall, this radio has been a good experience thus far. Recorded around 14:20 hrs UTC in Oxford UK using a Wellbrook ALA1530 magnetic loop antenna (outdoors). Thanks for watching and 73.

Radio Tarma 4775 kHz, Peru copied with some good audio on the JRC NRD535 and my end-fed wire antenna

 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JJaM4GuxF1U

Hi there, more audio from Radio Tarma, which remains a very difficult catch from Europe. Here the wire antenna was out-performing the Wellbrook loop. Recorded in Oxford UK on 13/06/26 at 00:14 hrs UTC. Thanks for watching and 73.

Radio Mosoj Chaski 3310 kHz, Bolivia copied on the JRC NRD535 and my amateur radio end-fed wire

 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6EcHkBQrQkY

Hi there, great to copy audio again from Bolivia on my end-fed wire I use for my amateur radio activities. I think this set-up was actually working slightly better than my Wellbrook loop that evening. The signal picks up as the recording progresses. Recorded in Oxford UK on 13/06/26 at 00:07 hrs UTC. Thanks for watching and 73.

Voice of Korea KCBS 15.2452 MHz Korean service to Europe copied at midnight UK time

 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d3hiOukq-oc

Hi there, it's been a long time since I copied a Voice of Korea KCBS transmission...and I didn't expect it to be on the 19m band at midnight. Recorded in Oxford on 03/06/26 using a Yaesu FRG-8800 and Wellbrook ALA1530 magnetic loop via an NTi AntennaJet RF splitter and GI1000 galvanic isolator. Thanks for watching and 73.

Scanning the shortwave bands on a very warm afternoon on 1st of October in Oxford with the MLite-880

 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WwZLJxWPkk0

Hi there, I love a hot day in Autumn and the 1st of October 2026 in Oxford UK was that day. Nothing better than to soak up the sunshine and have a tune through the shortwave bands with the brilliant MLite-880 coupled to my end-fed wire antenna. Thanks for watching and 73.

The Tecsun S2200x stands up well against the JRC NRD535 on recovered audio: WMLK Bethel on 15150 kHz

 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x56qDUPAYIM

Hi there, the Tecsun performs as well as the NRD535 on this (albeit) quite strong daylight signal from Pennsylvania. Let me know what you think - note I am using the same antenna for both radios. Recorded in Oxford UK on 29/08/26 at 15:20 UTC using a Wellbrook ALA1530 magnetic loop via an NTi AntennaJet RF splitter and GI1000 galvanic isolator. Thanks for watching and 73.

Indoor reception of the BBC World Service on 17640 kHz shortwave using the S2200x telescopic antenna

 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=edP6qZbM3fg

Hi there, I always listen to the football on the Radio on a Saturday and Sunday afternoon.....and of course it has to be medium wave AM! Whilst doing so last weekend, I wondered whether it would be possible to copy the same broadcast on shortwave via the World Service, with an indoor antenna...turns out it was! Recorded on 13/09/26 at 16:49 hrs UTC. Thanks for watching and 73.
